This is a tune I love to play, on fiddle, on mandolin, or just humming it to myself (even though that seems to get on my wife’s nerves). The first time I heard it I was confused since I thought “Rockingham Cindy” was the same tune as “I get my whiskey from Rockingham”. But I seem to have been wrong about that one. Both are great tunes though, and are part of my repertoire.
Rockingham Cindy is a tune after Tommy Jarrell, or at least he plays it. And since it is a Jarrel-tune you can find hundreds of brilliant versions of it all over the internet. I’ve collected a couple of them here for you.
Here’s my version, played on the mandolin.
And here are some of the other fantastic recordings, starting with Tommy Jarrell himself.
